Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2025
TYA ("we", "us", "our") operates the Sereno baby monitor application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
Our commitment: Sereno is designed with privacy at its core. Video and audio streams are transmitted directly between your devices (peer-to-peer) with end-to-end encryption. We never see, store, or have access to your baby's video or audio.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Phone number (optional): If you enable the backup call feature, you provide a phone number where we can reach you if you miss an alert. This number is transmitted to our call service provider (Twilio) to place the call.
- Google Account identifier: If you purchase Sereno+ or additional call credits, we store a hashed identifier linked to your Google Play account to track your purchase and remaining call credits. We do not have access to your Google account details.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Signaling data: To establish the peer-to-peer connection between devices, technical data (IP addresses, connection metadata) temporarily passes through our signaling server. This data is not stored and is discarded immediately after the connection is established.
- Analytics data: We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how the app is used. This includes:
- Session duration and frequency
- Screens viewed and features used
- App crashes and errors (via Firebase Crashlytics)
- Device type, OS version, and country (not precise location)
- Anonymous device identifiers
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Video or audio content — streams are peer-to-peer and end-to-end encrypted
- Precise location data
- Personal information beyond what's listed above
- Data from your device's contacts, photos, or other apps
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the service: Establishing connections between your devices, placing backup calls when enabled
- To improve the app: Analyzing usage patterns to fix bugs and improve features
- To manage purchases: Tracking Sereno+ subscriptions and call credits
3. Third-Party Services
Sereno uses the following third-party services that may collect data:
3.1 Google Play Services
Required for app distribution and in-app purchases. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
3.2 Firebase (Google)
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics. Data is processed in the United States. See Firebase Privacy Information.
3.3 Twilio
If you enable backup calls, your phone number is shared with Twilio to place voice calls. Twilio processes this data in the United States. See Twilio's Privacy Policy.
3.4 DigitalOcean
Our signaling server is hosted on DigitalOcean infrastructure. No personal data is stored on these servers.
3.5 TURN Relay Servers
In some network conditions, video/audio may be relayed through TURN servers. Even in this case, all content remains end-to-end encrypted — relay servers cannot decrypt or access the actual video/audio content.
4. Data Retention
- Signaling data: Not retained — discarded immediately after connection
- Phone numbers: Retained by Twilio according to their data retention policy; we do not store phone numbers on our servers
- Purchase records: Retained as long as your account exists or as required by law
- Analytics data: Retained according to Firebase's default retention periods (typically 14 months)
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your information:
- End-to-end encryption for all video and audio streams
- TLS encryption for all server communications
- No storage of sensitive data on our servers
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure: Request deletion of your data
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format
- Objection: Object to processing of your data
- Withdraw consent: Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].
7. Children's Privacy
Sereno is intended for use by parents and caregivers. The app itself is used to monitor children, but we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. The video/audio of children is streamed in real-time and never stored — not on our servers, not on your devices. Sereno has no recording functionality.
8. International Data Transfers
Some of our service providers (Google, Twilio, DigitalOcean) are based in the United States. When your data is transferred outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.
